Specialised composts

Specialised composts

September is an excellent time to prepare your compost heap, as the warm weather will kickstart the fermentation process. During this month, you can also create specialized composts tailored to specific needs.

Leaf Mould: This is an invaluable compost for sowing flowers and can also be used as a mulch in early spring. Simply collect fallen leaves and allow them to decompose into a rich, crumbly material.

Tomato Compost: Made from tomato plant remnants and leftovers after harvest, this compost is ideal for fertilizing tomato plants. Tomatoes can thrive for years in the same soil with this specialized compost, minimizing the need for crop rotation.

Weed Compost: Weeds can be composted too, but if you're concerned about seeds, use the compost on your lawn. Most weed seeds will not survive frequent mowing. However, be aware that dandelions might persist, but they are often considered more of a beneficial plant than a true weed.

By preparing these different types of compost, you can optimize your garden's health and productivity throughout the growing season.
